SICILY PLAYS A LEADING ROLE IN THE 8TH LOCAL MEETING OF THE LEONARDO COMMITTEE

The company A.A.T. Oranfresh hosted the 8th Local Meeting of the Leonardo Comittee entitled Technology, innovation and marketing: challenges for a new agroindustry, which was held in Catania on 23 September 2013. The first Leonardo Committee initiative in Sicily, the meeting provided an important opportunity for reflection and dialogue between entrepreneurs, researchers and representatives of government institutions on issues relating to enhancement of the agricultural and food supply chain at regional and national level. The sessions, presided over by the Chair of the Leonardo Committee, Luisa Todini, were enlivened by the active participation of leading figures from industry and national and local government, including the Chairman of A.A.T. Oranfresh, Salvatore Torrisi,

the Mayor of Catania, Enzo Bianco, the Undersecretary for Agricultural Policies, Giuseppe Castiglione, the Director General of Internationalisation from the Ministry of Economic Development, Pietro Celi, the Vice-President of Confindustria for Education, Ivan Lo Bello, the President of Confindustria Catania, Domenico Bonaccorsi di Reburdone, the President of the Young Entrepreneurs of Confindustria Sicily, Silvio Ontario, the Dean of Catania University, Giacomo Pignataro, and the Director of the Strategic Planning, Research and Overseas Network Office of the Italian Trade Promotion Agency (ICE), Gianpaolo Bruno. During the debate Sicilian entrepreneurs told their stories, emphasising the strengths and weaknesses of the Sicilian agricultural and food supply chain and helping to identify possible means for boosting the competitiveness of companies in the sector at national level and in overseas markets. At the end of the meeting, the participants were taken on a tour of the Science and Technology Park of Sicily.
